For Substance Abouse Disorder (SUD)
SUD peer counselors are people who have “lived experience” with substance use disorder. They have experienced it themselves and self-identify as being in recovery for atleast 1 year. In 2019, the State of Washington implemented SUD peer counselors.
Peer counseling services can be reimbursed through medicaid in treatment centers, hospitals, clinics, recovery centers, crisis lines and other behavioral health organizations.
